It was a full house Sunday as 57 crowded our small room for worship! An average Sunday attendance is 28. Most of the 30 extra were first-time visitors who came as a result of our English Day Camp VBS. Most had probably never been in a church before. Most had likely never heard of the Creator God who loves them and sent His Son Jesus Christ to redeem them from their sins.  Thank you for praying for the VBS. God answered those prayers.

It was an eventful week to say the least. It started on Saturday, July 23, at about 4 p.m. when the 6-member team from Lancaster PA arrived at the airport. Their arrival was earth-shaking, you could say. Just as they arrived, Tokyo was hit with the largest earthquake in 13 years. Instantly, the trains we depend on for transportation were stopped for safety checks. With no trains, we decided to take the bus, but just as we went to buy tickets, they shut down the expressways and all bus service stopped! I tried to rent a car, but all cars were soon gone.

We thought we might be stuck for the night, but finally with the help of the Landaws (Alliance missionaries living nearby), we found a small minivan to rent. We piled 7 adults and all their luggage into the van – right to the roof, and headed home in the dark. Major expressways were closed, so we aimed westward (as best you can in the night) and tried to find our way home. It took about 4 hours, but finally we got home.

The team experienced a second earthquake and a typhoon during their week here. Never a dull moment in Japan!

Camp went well. All 17 kids enjoyed themselves and the teachers did a great job of keeping things exciting and under control (somewhat).  The theme of the week was CREATION, and we presented songs and verses about Creation during the closing program Sunday.

We are PRAISING God this week, for the opportunity to declare the Glory of Christ and introduce these 17 and their parents to Jesus Christ. Now we pray that the seeds planted will grow and one day bear fruit.

By the way, some more GREAT NEWS: On July 24, we celebrated the new birth of Mrs. Nagai as she gave testimony and followed the Lord in baptism. More next time!
