Opening of the Sea
Next Monday is a Japanese Holiday: “Sea Day” – the day they
“open the sea.” Sounds like a re-enactment of the Exodus,
but actually it’s not quite that dramatic. It is the day the
sea is “opened” as in “open for swimming.” We find it odd
that pools and beaches don’t open until mid-July when it is
hot in May, but people are busy and children are in school
until that day, so maybe there is no one free to enjoy the
sea before that day! It’s one of the mysteries of the
Orient.
Speaking of the Exodus, we could use a big miracle like the
opening of the Red Sea. Would you pray that God work in a
mighty way as He did at the Exodus? Our big event of the
summer will be our VBS. I’ve mentioned it before: July
25-28, with a closing program on Sunday, the 31. This team
has worked incredibly hard and prepared what looks like a
great program for us. With registration closing next week,
we only have 9 kids so far. We are praying for 30. Would you
pray that more kids register within the next week, and for
the team’s final preparation and finances? Thanks you..
SWAMP-seeing
On a personal note: several weeks ago, we took a one-night
trip to a swamp for vacation. I know. Those of you from PA
or Minnesota are probably scratching your heads. You
probably have a swamp in your back yard- and a billion
mosquitoes to go with it. For people in Tokyo, though, a
walk in the swamp may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Just ask our niece, Krista, who visited recently. When we
asked people what we should see, one of the top
recommendations was a visit to a swamp! So we tried it!
God’s creation really IS beautiful. Even the swamp!
Have a great day,
