where did you lose it | kapsule

I lost my bank book this week – a book that serves both as a cash card and as a replacement for monthly statements. So, I went to the post office to report it lost. (The post office is a bank in Japan – but that’s another story.) Anyway, I get to the counter, tell them I lost my bank book, and you can guess what they ask. “Where did you loose it?”

What a question. Do they think I would be here if I knew? It’s lost, and I don’t know where to find it – that’s why I’m here!

Reading the headlines in Japan this week, we’re reminded once again that we’re surrounded by people who are lost and have no idea where to look for hope.

News headlines this week

  • Japan’s population shrunk by 21,400 people last year. At the current rate, Japan will shrink to half it’s current size in just 70 years.

  • Once again, the birth rate dropped. Young people are deciding not to bring a child into the world. The national average is 1.25 children. Tokyo women average less than 1.

  • Suicide, already 350% higher than the U.S. (WHO statistics), rose again. 32,552 people ended their own lives last year.

Thankfully, God continues to love the Japanese people and continues to lead them to The Way.
