Declaring the glory of Christ

among the least reached

where all the odds are stacked against us.

“Mom!

Is there really a state here in

Japan where everyone is a Christian?!” Eryn yelled excitedly as her eye caught the magazine cover article: “The State of the Kingdom of God in Japan.”

No, sadly that is not the case – yet. But more people are hearing about Christ every day for the first time!

dedication | Kapsule

What dedication these believers have shown – praying for nearly 20 years for a pastor and a permanent place of worship!

God has answered those prayers and we made it back to Japan just in time to attend the Dedication service for the newly purchased building of Sayama Alliance Church.

Since the start of the church by Alliance missionaries nearly 20 years ago, the believers have rented an office room to meet in. The rent alone was almost more than this young congregation could pay. When God answered their prayers and brought them a wonderful pastor, Rev. Miyoshi, several years ago, we were thrilled. They had waited many years for a Japanese pastor. At the same time, however, paying 2 rents (his apartment and the church room) was killing them.

Then suddenly, God brought to their attention a small office building that was for sale. They purchased it, renovated it, and have a wonderful new building. Now that they have their own building, the pastor can live in the church, thus saving even more money. (This is the standard practice in Japan.)

The building has a sanctuary on the 1st floor, and a multi-purpose room and the pastor’s apartment on the 2nd floor.  (see stats on the left) You’ll notice the second floor is quite a bit larger than the 1st floor. That’s because about the parsonage portion is on “stilts” above a 3 or 4 car parking area.

The dedication of the building and the dedication of the believers was a great encouragement for us and for the believers of Sengendai church where we served last year. They are still waiting and praying for a building and a pastor.

Photo BLOG notice

Rather than fill everyone’s inbox with things you may not want, we have started a photo blog – mostly photos with comments beside them. Pictures of this new church are on our blog, along with photos of our house, new neighborhood, and life our first weeks back in Japan.

Of course, our website, www.theKindervaters.com, has some photos, but for privacy reasons, we are putting most of them on the blog, instead.

If you are interested in viewing the blog, just drop us a note and we will send you the address and add you to the list of viewers.

Warmly,

David & Evangeline Kindervater
