10 days and counting | Returning to Japan

Ten days until we leave for Japan! Today I asked the kids what they were most excited about.

Eryka:  “Getting back my doll.” (It has been in storage in Japan for the last year.)

Eryn:  “Seeing my friends again.”  (We will be living about 1 ½ hours away from our last place, but we will still have opportunity to visit from time to time.)

Josiah: “Meeting soccer friends from the soccer camp I went to 2 years ago.”

Evangeline:  “Getting back to normal life.” (You’ll have to ask her what that means.)

Myself: I’m looking forward to traveling by bike and subway and relaxing in the hot springs!

Most of all, we are looking forward to getting back to where God has called us to be His witnesses. We don’t know exactly what our life and ministry will look like this time, but we are expecting God.

PRAYER REQUEST:

We would appreciate your continued prayer for the financial situation of Alliance missions. Giving to the Great Commission Fund over the last several months has been very good, for which we praise the Lord. However, Alliance Missions remains in a financial crisis.

Last July, our mission budget was cut by about 52%. That was followed by several smaller cuts. This month, we were told to cut another 24%. That leaves just a very small fraction of what we had just a year ago. Funds for evangelistic outreach, renting facilities, training Japanese leaders, helping new church plants – these funds have been eliminated. At this time, we are looking at zero-budget for a new church plant.

We remind ourselves that God does not sit in heaven wringing His hands in worry; neither should we. We would appreciate your continued prayers though, for provision and also for creativity in seeing new ways of church planting which don’t demand money.

FUTUTURE HOME

For the next 10 months or so, we will be living in the mission office (pictured above). The far right is the office and chapel, the middle is a small guest apartment, and the left will be our apartment.  For those interested in seeing a satellite view of our future home :
